Smoking: Alessandro Busci Solo Exhibition – FREE EVENT

Date: 21 June – 20 July 2024

Venue: Novalis Art Design, G/F, 197 Hollywood Road, Hong Kong

The Italian Cultural Institute in Hong Kong is pleased to support Smoking, the first solo exhibition of Italian artist Alessandro Busci in Asia, organized by Novalis Art Design. The exhibition will feature Busci’s paintings as well as art jewelry from his collaboration with Babs Art Gallery.

Busci generates delicate signs as a sapient calligrapher, outlining dark flashes, nocturnal lights, hypnotic monochrome landscapes with difficult promise. A dark vision of the urban drama in the world. His paintings full of gestures that prophesy the oily, petroliferous worlds, of atmospheres where hope persists only through some rare concession of a few touches of yellow or orange.

Since 2002 Busci has been painting on iron or metal sheets, dipped in acid solution to activate the oxidation process. While the rust is forming and spreading, Busci works on the damp sheet using mainly acrylics and enamels and a Japanese calligraphy brush.

Alessandro Busci

Alessandro Busci, painter and architect, lives and works in Milan. A graduate of the Milan Polytechnic University with a thesis in art history, he explores the potential of exchange between the western and eastern iconographic traditions in work characterized by a highly distinctive pictorial and calligraphic style on unconventional supports like steel, copper and aluminium, worked with acid and enamels, or on the more traditional paper.
