Salento is a borderland stretching towards the East. From its colourful shores, once inhabited by the Messapii, women and men have always tried to draw a line between the sky and the sea; they have tried to find the point beyond which one can no longer proceed. Salento is a land of transit and transformation. Those who arrive here would like to stay. Those who were born here would rather leave.

Many imposing, bold towers rise from the sea. They allow a better view of the horizon and let one dream about travelling. They guard and offer shelter. One after another, the towers pass along whispers about yet another legendary place: the Finibus Terrae – once the last boundary of the known world. Santa Maria di Leuca is its sanctuary whose towering lighthouse has prevented ships from going adrift over the course of centuries. Forests mark the edge of the shores which are sometimes as thin as lips. The sunset projects fading scenes, where everything becomes distant in a curve of light. It seems as though the colours would melt and drip onto the landscape and its people.

The Salento Land of Charm photographic exhibition is composed of 20 photos (50X70 cm) which portray the landscapes, the scenery and the charm of Salento.

Photographers: Maurizio Biasco, Alessandro Calo’, Gigi Campanile, Roberto Leone, Daniele Met, Micoccio Roberto.
