Two of the most acclaimed musicians and composers of the Italian and European jazz scene, both Genoese, will be touring the Far East in the most renowned clubs and teathers in Hong Kong, Canton, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and Osaka. Alessio Menconi and Massimiliano Rolff, friends and music companions for many years, bring for their audience, the experience of great jazz, through the simplicity of the song form.

The swing, the sound and the improvisation of these two Italian artists is highlighted in the songs of the great American songbook as well as in the melodies of the unforgettable standards of the Italian repertoire and through the rhythms of the great authors of Brazilian music. This jazz duo, in its expressive intimacy, exalts the great improvisational qualities of the Italian interpreters, bringing to the public the emotion of a great concert. the repertoire includes songs and music by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Domenico Modugno and Gino Paoli, among others.

 

ALESSIO MENCONI

Alessio Menconi was born in Genoa (Italy). He approached guitar at the age of 10 as self-taught. He is currently living between New York and Italy. Considered a prodigy, in 1986 he started is professional career with some of the best Italian musicians. In 1992 he won the award as Best Soloist in Gran Prix du Jazz. In 1993 he participated in Eddie Lang Festival contest (one of the most important Italian competitions for guitarists), winning the first prize as best Italian jazz guitarist.
He has played in Europe, Asia, Africa, North-South-Central America and recorded over 50 CDs together with several musicians, including Paolo Conte, Billy Cobham and the French ONJ (Orchestre National du Jazz).

As the only Italian musician, in 2003 he partecipated in the recording of the CD Voodoo Crossing – A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix together with Robben Ford, Steve Lukather, Hiram Bullock, Larry Coryell and many others. Apart from having his own trio and solo project, he actively records CDs and works as jazz guitar teacher at the Music Conservatories in La Spezia and Genoa.
Some of the most important musicians he has played with are Paolo Conte, Billy Cobham, Jimmy Cobb, Toninho Horta, Adrienne West, Shawnn Monteiro, Marcio Montarroyos, Stefano Bollani, Danny Gottlieb, Enrico Rava, Tullio De Piscopo, Daniel Humair, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Red Holloway, Franco Cerri, Flavio Boltro, Gary Husband, Dado Moroni, Paolo Fresu, Carl Anderson, Franco Ambrosetti, Gary Bartz and many others.

 

MASSIMILIANO ROLFF

Massimiliano Rolff’s playing, along with a deep knowledge of the tradition mixed with a personal taste for composition, has become a landmark for many jazz lovers across Italy. In over 15 years of music career, Massimiliano Rolff has been extensively touring in Europe and USA alongside with some of the world’s finest jazz musicians; he released 5 albums as band leader and more than 20 as sideman and co-leader.
Based in Genoa, he leads and performs his own music with several bands across Italy and Europe. Massimiliano started playing music as a self-taught guitarist at the age of 12. At the age of 16 he was performing across Italy as a young bass player with different pop-rock bands. He received his professional musical training in The Netherlands and in New York City, before settling back in Genoa (Italy).

After some years of professional side-work with national italian pop artists, in 2004 he bought his first double-bass and his music life changeed once more. As a freelance double bass player, in the past years Massimiliano has performed in some of the most important clubs, festivals, teathers and tv shows in Italy, Holland, France, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria, Israel, Turkey and USA with famous musicians such as Steve Grossman, Scott Hamilton, Eliot Zigmund, Perico Sambeat, Jesse Davis, Dave Schnitter, Phil Woods. He has released several award-winning CDs. When he is not on tour, he teaches electric bass at different Music Conservatories in Italy.
