ITALIAN SCREENS – New Italian Cinema Goes Abroad is an initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), Cinecittà for the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture (DGCA-MiC), and the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards. It has been set up to promote the Italian Film Distribution Fund, development and production incentives, attractive tax credits and amazing locations.
The screenings in Hong Kong are organized in collaboration with The Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and The Emperor Cinema. From the 23rd to the 30th of November 2023, a selection of 10 contemporary Italian movies nominated for the “David di Donatello Awards”, will be screened, for the first time ever in Hong Kong, at The Emperor Cinema in Times Square, Causeway Bay (Hong Kong Island). Italian Screens Festival showcases the best of Italian contemporary film production, by presenting the latest works of the most renowned Italian film makers, such as Paolo Virzì, Pupi Avati, Francesca Archibugi, Gianni Amelio, Roberto Ando’, Mario Martone, and starring some of the most appreciated Italian and international actors.
The initiative is part of the program of the re-branded Italian Autumn Festival in Hong Kong and Macau, named ITALIA on Stage, promoted by the Italian Consulate General in partnership with all the Italian institutions and associations active in town, that celebrates the best of Italian culture, business, art and lifestyle in Hong Kong.
