Heidi Li is a Hong Kong born NeoSoul/Pop/Jazz singer composer who grew up with a Chinese opera background under her parents’ influence. She has also been active on YouTube, singing folk songs in different Italian dialects. Born in 1991 in the Southern Italian city of Taranto, Danilo Tarso began to study classical piano at the age of 13. He graduated with 110 e Lode (full marks with honours) both at the Conservatory of Taranto for classical piano and at Siena Jazz University for jazz piano. Although currently still only 26, he has already been performing at various international festivals and in prestigious theatres and clubs, including the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, BIMHUIS in Amsterdam, Opus Jazz Club in Budapest, Teatro La Fenice in Venice and Locomotive Jazz Festival in Lecce where he was the winner of best young player of 2015. He has recently received the prestigious AIR “Artists in Residence” national scholarship promoted by SIAE and by MIDJ (Italian Musicians of Jazz).

PROGRAMME

“Heidi canta in tutti i dialetti” (Heidi Sings in all Dialects) is initially a series of YouTube videos in which Heidi travels around Italy and collaborates with local musicians to sing folk songs in various regional languages and dialects, with the objective of showing Italy’s cultural and linguistic diversity. It is then transformed into a live performance debuting in October 2016 at the States General of the Italian Language in the World, an important event organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.

The repertoire consists of folk songs from various Italian regions in local dialects/languages, rearranged with a jazz infusion. Heidi will be accompanied by Danilo Tarso, a young and talented Italian pianist, incorporating improvisation and interplay between the two of them. Videos of Italian scenery matching the region of each song will be projected at this concert to bring the audience on a musical journey.
