ANDREA MOGAVERO

Andrea Mogavero is widely regarded as one of the foremost flutists of his generation, praised for his performances that evoke the great flutists of the past. He began studying the flute in 1992 after being inspired by the renowned French virtuoso, Jean-Pierre Rampal. With a broad repertoire that spans from Baroque music to contemporary compositions, Andrea is in high demand as a performer. He graduated with distinction from the “Tito Schipa” Conservatory of Lecce, Italy, and further honed his skills under the tutelage of international soloists Andrea Griminelli and Claudi Arimany, who have described him as “one of the young promises of the Italian flute” and “among the best flutists and interesting interpreters of his generation,” respectively.

In 2009, Andrea was invited to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique A. Cortot in Paris under the tutelage of Maestro Shigenori Kudo. He has collaborated with prominent flutists such as Sir James Galway, Massimiliano Damerini, Lady Jeanne Galway, Vittoria Yeo, and Rachele Stanisci. Andrea has also performed alongside other notable musicians such as the Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson (for the International Residency Programme at the Music and Arts “Sound Res”), Hans-Jörg Schellenberger (1st Oboe at the Berliner Philharmonisches Orchester), Claudio Paradiso, Lorenzo Castriota Skanderbeg, Karl Martin, Mons. Marco Frisina, and the Etoile of dance Toni Candeloro.

Andrea has studied with renowned flutists such as Jànos Bàlint, Angelo Malerba, and Pierre-Yves Artaud, and has earned the Degree in Musical Teaching Methodology at the “Nino Rota” School of Music in Monopoli, Italy. He also holds the Degree in Flute Soloist and the Degree in Chamber Music from the “G. Paisiello” Conservatory in Taranto, Italy.

In 2018, Andrea released a disc dedicated to the Trio-Sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach in collaboration with pianist Alberto Ferro, which was published by Da Vinci Classics and distributed by NAXOS and EGEA Music. He followed up with a disc dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn with Massimiliano Damerini in 2021, a disc dedicated to Georg Philipp Telemann’s “12 Fantasies” in 2022, and a disc dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach with Claudi Arimany in 2023.

In 2022, Andrea also published a collection of three Sonatas by F. Mendelssohn for violin, transcribed for flute (two as first absolute transcription), which was distributed by Hal Leonard and published by Da Vinci Publishing.

Andrea’s exceptional musicianship has earned him recognition beyond the classical music world. His recording of the Sarabande from Solo Flute Partita in A minor BWV 1013 by J.S. Bach was featured in the soundtrack of the Canadian film La femme de mon frère by Monia Chokri, which was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

Andrea Mogavero plays a gold flute Wm S. Haynes 14k.
