Week of Italian Cuisine – Film Screenings – FREE EVENT

“Quando l’Italia mangiava in bianco e nero” (When Italy Ate in Black and White), a documentary directed by Andrea Gropplero di Troppenburg in 2015. It shows the concepts of nutrition, cooking, friendliness have changed over the last 90 years and what is the incidence of the energy of the so called Bel Paese in this changes of the “good food”. This documentary is not a sociological survey, in the intentions, but a loving research, in black and white, of the good life’s recipes. The documentary represents a tasty journey through dishes, kitchens, personal experiences, gags of show business and culture personalities. It collects 20 recipes and 20 unpublished short films, one for each Italian region, to form an extraordinary recipe book of Italian cuisine tradition.

Rupi del Vino (2010), directed by Ermanno Olmi. “There are five reasons for drinking: a friend’s arrival, the excellence of the wine, present and future thirst, and whatever else you care to add”. This film is a poetic journey through the wine’s stones and the valleys of Valtellina, in Northern Italy. It is a penetrating look at this unique community and place, noted for grape and wine production. The film shows the history of the vineyards and the effort to cultivate this specific territory, in order to explore the local wine tradition.
