Performance of Aurelio Porfiri latest
composition: the Oratorio CORPUS DOMINI in honor of the mystery of the
Eucharist. This work will be performed from Santa Rosa de Lima English
Secondary Choir, Our Lady of Fatima Girls’ Choir and China Hong Kong Youth
Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the composer himself, Maestro Aurelio
Porfiri. This work has being called “a symphonic-choral oratorio”. The
meaning of this is that the part of the Orchestra is as important as the one
of the choir, maybe even predominant in some of the parts of the Oratorio.
The Oratorio is divided in 4 parts: Coenantibus autem eis, Gustate et
Videte, Ave Verum Corpus Natum, Veni, Iesu Domine.
It is a concert event, a world premiere of so challenging work here in
Macau. Indeed this is not new for Aurelio Porfiri and Santa Rosa de Lima
English Secondary Choir: just one month ago they present Aurelio Porfiri’s
MISSA PRO DEFUNCTIS for female choir a Cappella, a performance that get
lots of attention from mass media and internationally.
Professor Aurelio Porfiri has mentioned that “it is a great challenge to
build a performance like this, with all students. Certainly Macau is not a
place known for cultural events but more and more for its gambling
atmosphere. So I think I should feel satisfied that I was able to propose
this new work of mine here, with the hope that will touch the heart of the
audience”.
Sister Judith Yuen, Principal of Santa Rosa da Lima English Secondary stated
that “it is very meaningful to meditate more and more on the Eucharist,
especially now we are closer to the Easter Season”. Sister Louisa Lui,
supervisor of Our Lady of Fatima Girls’ School also has said: “for our girls
it is wonderful to be exposed to music of this level, to sing in latin, the
language of western culture. We hope music can touch their hearts”.
The concert will be recorded for a CD production.
