“Appearances” – Temporary exhibition of the Italian artist Giacobbe Luigi

Galleria “Novalis Art + Design” is pleased to present “appearances”, a solo exhibition by Luigi Giacobbe. Whoever keeps a painting of Luigi Giacobbe gets into an atmosphere of emotion and wants to understand and touch the artwork that emanates communicative energy.

Luigi Giacobbe: “Adding one image to the next is like choosing one story out of the vastness of possible stories. In my work the space has always haunted me. And I always wondered where reality is actually having its hiding spot. In the construction of the image or in the misisng links. When creating a serie, pictures are like all grammatical elements at once. Subject, verb, etc. There is no beginning and no end”.

Francesco Lietti exhibition

Lietti’s work derives from the mnemonic imagery of the artist, who lives in symbiosis with themes of travel and discovery. He paints dreamlike visions of Hong Kong, that often have a humorous quality, containing playfully distorted and colourful shapes, describing the city in an almost caricatured magnificence.

Exhibition: Pier Luigi de Lutti e Bertozzi & Casoni

Pierluigi De Lutti: “Monochromes”. An experienced painter, De Lutti applies several layers of colours, finding the most entangling transparencies. They actually enclose invisible preciousness: chords which De Lutti builds up with acuity, like the lines of a poem or the notes of a song.

Bertozzi & Casoni are liars. They have built huge machines which are perfectly useless since they are made only of pottery, and the mechanisms are only fake replica. They are unusable. Being artworks, they should at least generate ideas, but really these two guys are not interested at all in giving us a key to reading their works.”

Exhibition: SUPERFICI/SURFACES/雕面 by Enrico Castellani

The exhibition is composed by a range of fundamental works spanning from the early seventies to the late nighties, retracing the career of this Italian master who was associated with the Zero movement and the magazine Azimuth, created with fellow artist and friend Piero Manzoni.

The show focuses on the seminal body of work Superfici (Surfaces): shaped relief canvases that Castellani started working on as early as 1959 and is still producing. These canvases signify and mark a historical moment when there was an essential quest for the dimensional and a land marking shift in the use of the canvas: it was no longer confined to being a background tool in aide of the abstract gesture but an active, physical and expanding surface that demands to exist.

Opening Reception on Nov 18 (Fri)

Exhibition: Saturno Buttò

Saturno Buttò: “Saturnicore” “I love to mix things… Sacred and profane, for example. I always went for some amusement through painting. Still I uphold my flair for portraits. For I enjoy so much creating and looking at them. Then. The figures must spring pure in the painting. As I conceived them the very first moment. Once I finished it, I may devote myself to gaze at it and think over the implications it would mean”.
