Marco Bonfigli – clarinet

Juan Sebastian Collazos – piano

The Duo Harmonia Mundi was created in 2010 by the Italian clarinetist Marco Bonfigli, specialized in chamber music and solo repertoire, with the aim of promoting chamber music for clarinet and piano in Latin America. The meeting with Juan Sebastian Collazos, one of the most talented Colombian young pianists, led to the official birth of Harmonia Mundi in October 2010. The name is inspired by and reinterprets the famous Pythagorean theory on the concept of harmony.

Marco Bonfigli was born in Latina (Italy) and graduated in 1996 at the Institute “A. Manzoni” of Latina and then in 1998 at the Conservatory “O. Respighi” (Latina) where he received his master’s degree under the guidance of clarinetist Francesco Belli. In 2002 he was called to play in the “Valley Symphony Orchestra” (Colombia), where he performed with international musicians. In the same year he won the concertmaster competition of the “Symphonic Band Cali”. In March 2003 he traveled to New York where he played with different chamber groups and took classes with Kalmen Opperman.

From August 2003 until June 2008 he was professor of clarinet at the “EAFIT University” in Medellin (Colombia). He currently teaches clarinet and chamber music at the Conservatory “Antonio Maria Valencia” of Cali, Colombia. Maestro Bonfigli’s concert activity consists of performances as a soloist as well as a member of chamber groups, including the Trio Harmonia Mundi (clarinet, cello and piano), of which he is the artistic director and promoter and which has an intense musical activity around the different cultural scenes in Colombia.

Juan Sebastian Collazos is originally from Cali (Colombia) where he received his bachelor degree at the Conservatory “Antonio María Valencia” under the guidance of Professor Sandra Leonard. He is currently taking a MM as a student of Eric Zuber at the Schwob School of Music in Georgia, USA. He has taken part into several piano competitions such as “Luis Carlos Figueroa” Spanish American piano competition, Cartagena’s International Piano Festival Student Scholarship competition, Cali’s Philharmonic Concerto Competition and the prestigious “Young Soloist” Colombian Competition.

Collazos has given concerts in different countries such as Spain, Italy, United States, Costa Rica and Colombia. Besides his soloist career, he is the pianist of the Duo Harmonia Mundi. He has taken masterclasses with Horacio Gutierrez (USA/Cuba), Joanna Trzeciak (Poland), Mauricio Vallina (Cuba), Luca Chiantore (Italy), Wu Han (Taiwan-USA), Eric Fung (China), Vaclav Pacl (Czech Republic), Randall Benway (USA), Blanca Uribe (Colombia), Sergei Sichkov (Russia), among others.
