Kalàscima is one of Italy’s hottest bands. This internationally acclaimed group mesh the ancient traditional ritual dance music of Taranta (Salento, Southern Italy) with electronic music.
Explosive, energetic, captivating, Kalàscima features many fascinating instruments (bagpipe, traditional flutes, Italian organetto), a spectacularly vast array of percussions from South Italy and from all over the world (rick, darbouka), thrilling vocal and modern instruments (bass guitar and loop machine).
The musicians are stable members in important European folk bands and orchestras including the Orchestra Popolare “La Notte della Taranta” (directed by Ludovico Einaudi, Stewart Copeland, Mauro Pagani, Joe Zawinul), the “Orchestra Popolare Italiana” from the prestigious Auditorium “Parco della Musica” in Rome, the “Pizzicata Orchestra” and the “Orchestra of Sicily”.
Kalàscima has performed all over the world (Mexico, China, Egypt, Norway, USA, Russia, Germany, Denmark, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal). The band has participated in national and international music festivals including “La Notte della Taranta Festival” and has collaborated with important artists and bands such as Ambrogio Sparagna, “Orchestra Popolare Italiana” from Auditorium “Parco della Musica”, Ensemble Notte della Taranta, Buena Vista Social Club, Lucilla Galeazzi, Orlando Mascia, Raffaello Simeoni, Franco Battiato, Après la Classe, Carmen Consoli, Sud Sound System, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Francesco De Gregori, Gianna Nannini, Avion Travel, Pelù, Mario Incudine, Nidi d’Arac, Mimmo Epifani, Uccio Aloisi Gruppu, Muzak, Orchestra Coros y Danza de Baza, Carlos Nunez and many others.
