Indonesian author Intan Paramaditha’s ingenious novel The Wandering explores the highs and lows of global nomadism, the politics and privileges of travel and desire, and the freedoms and limitations of the choices we make. She speaks with Australian author Patrick Holland, (The Darkest Little Room, One), whose writing probes similar themes of travel, non-place and supermodernity, and the gains and losses associated with these. Moderated by Marco Mancassola, an Italian writer based in London.

ABOUT INTAN PARAMADITHA:

Intan Paramaditha is an Indonesian writer based in Sydney. She holds a Ph.D. from New York University and teaches media and film studies at Macquarie University. She is the author of the short story collection Apple and Knife (2018) and the novel The Wandering (2020), which was selected as Tempo Best Literary Fiction of 2017 and a winner of PEN Translates Award from English PEN. Both books were translated from the Indonesian language by Stephen J. Epstein and published by Harvill Secker.

 

ABOUT MARCO MANCASSOLA:

Marco Mancassola was born in Northern Italy in 1973. His literary works are published by the main Italian publishers and by Gallimard in France. His books earned several literary prizes including the Premio Fiesole. His last novel Gli Amici Del Deserto has been recently published in France.

 

HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL LITERARY FESTIVAL:

The 20th anniversary edition of Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF) will go ahead this year as a hybrid festival of live and online events.

From 5th–15th November HKILF will present more than 70 events featuring writers and speakers from around the world. The flexible format means people can join no matter what the COVID-19 situation is in November.

HKILF is planning live events with local authors where it will be possible for audiences to enjoy the live festival atmosphere, HKILF is also offering a fantastic virtual line-up that people can watch at home with their family, friends or book club.

HKILF 20th edition theme ‘Present Tense/Future Perfect’ explores in fiction and non - fiction how the world is responding to issues such as health, inequality and climate change, as well as possible future directions for humanity and the planet.
