SantaRosa de Lima English Secondary choir is going to present “When West Meet East”,
a concert that will perform the works of western composers residing in Macau in the XX and XXI centuries. The concert will be
held on Saturday, November 30th, 2013 starting from 6pm to 7:30pm in Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary Chapel. This
will be a major project among the other choral activities of Santa Rosa de Lima
English Secondary School.
The
composers, whose works will be performed in this concert, are Ferdinando
Maberini (Italy), Guilherme
Schmid (Austria), Aureo
Castro (Portugal) and
Aurelio Porfiri (Italy).
All of them worked in Macao
for a consistent period of time, being the first three missionaries and the
fourth one a full time musician. All of them were educated in western institutions
and have an important role in the development of musical culture in Macau. Sister Judith Alice Yuen FMM, Principal of Santa
Rosa de Lima English Secondary, affirms: “It is important for our students to
enjoy the works of western composers who were active in our city in the past or
in the present. In this way they can see Macau
not only as the gambling city, but also as a place of culture”.
Some
of the works performed will have their premiere in this concert. This event is also
a part of a bigger project that the
school is supporting about music in Macau.
Prof. Aurelio Porfiri, Director of Choral Activities in Santa Rosa de Lima
English Secondary declares: “I think it is nice to let our students know more
about those composers who fill Macao
with good music. Certainly not all the performed composers are at the same
technical level, some are more advanced than others; nevertheless it is
important to have a broad idea about the musical activities taking place in Macau in the near past or present time”.
The
concert will be conducted by Prof. Aurelio Porfiri, with Ms. Dian Paramita as
accompanist. Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary Choir has previously
performed in many occasions, such as concerts including world premieres, local
events and international events. The choir has taken part in several workshops
held by international experts.
