See the beautiful Italian region of Sardinia through the camera lens. The Italian Cultural Institute in Hong Kong and Dante Alighieri Society Hong Kong are teaming up to show you eight original short films made by Sardinian directors and set in Sardinia, under the project Visioni Sarde.

Visioni Sarde was born in 2014 as part of the festival Visioni Italiane of the Cineteca di Bologna. This non-profit initiative aims at promoting the Italian region of Sardinia and its culture through the work of young Sardinian cinematographic talents.

During the event, participants will also be able to enjoy a small refreshment of Italian products, including some typical Sardinian delicacies such as pecorino sardo, pane carasau and wine provided by Delidori Hong Kong.

The films will be screened in original language with English subtitles to encourage the spread of the Italian language and culture and talk about universal themes. The films were selected among the best productions of last year (2023):

  • Giù cun Giuali by Michela Anedda (3 min)
Two completely different cousins: one is clean and tidy, the other dirty and disrespectful. As they play, they find a way to go beyond appearances.
  • Incappucciati, Foschi by Nicola Camoglio (13 min)
A family is driving through the mountainous centre of the island of Sardinia, at the height of the paranoia-charged 1970s. During this fateful journey, along dark and treacherous roads, they encounter a group of bandits and kidnappers.
  • Quello che è mio by Gianni Cesaraccio (19 min)
Former soldiers who fell ill on missions travel through a rural landscape, carrying out one robbery after another.
  • La punizione del prete by Francesco Tomba and Chiara Tesser (18 min)
Set in the past, it tells a story in which the cunning of a blind man prevails over the avarice of a priest.
  • Ranas by Daniele Arca (18 min)
Two middle school kids decide to undertake a journey towards the mountains as a gesture of courage.
  • Spiaggia libera by Ludovica Zedda (16 min)
Father and daughter are ready to enjoy a peaceful day at the beach. But behind the memories of one and the silences of the other, lies the fear of facing a critical topic for both.
  • Ti aspetto qui by Gabriele Brundu (13 min)
An event disrupts the life of Andrea, a 9-year-old boy, forcing him to put a strain on his childhood. But Andrea is not alone and with the help of his parents, he moves lightly in the world of adults to restore broken balances.
  • Tilipirche by Francesco Piras (18 min)
Set in Sardinia during a terrible invasion of locusts, tells the story of a farmer who has to face this enormous natural challenge.
