The five Elements, Fire, Water, Earth, Wood and Metal, which are
also considered to be the five Phases of traditional Chinese culture as
of many other Asian and western cultures, are the core of this
performance. With references, primarily, to the studies of C.Jung on
alchemy and symbolism, the writing of F.Nietzsche and C.Kerényi related
to the Greek philosophy and mythology, the five Phases becomes creation
and evolution of the planet Earth: from a cold mass of naked rocks to a
lively planet hosting biological life. The five Phases focuses on the
different elements in action: music, dance, movement and visual. A grid
of interleaved layers are created with real instruments and pre-recorded
sounds, interacting with dance, video projections and stage elements.
Phase one: Metal, for a solo musician
Phase two: Fire, for a solo dancer and tape
Phase three: Water, for two bodies in movement and tape
Phase four: Wood, for visual and tape
Phase five: Earth, for dance, music and visual
The performance has a total duration of about 55min, without intermission.
