Maurizio Moretti is one of the best interpreters of the renowned Italian school of pianoforte. His ability to deliver breathtaking performances,
has made him a star of the most famous international concert halls, and
a favourite with both international audiences and critics alike. During
a career spanning more than two decades, Maurizio Moretti has performed
all over Europe in Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, Amsterdam, Prague, Milan,
Budapest, Frankfurt, Madrid, Stockholm, Grenoble and Lille. He has also
performed across the globe in Japan, North and South America and
Australia with a wide-ranging repertoire including solo piano works,
chamber music as well as concertos for piano and orchestra. He has
appeared as soloist with major orchestras such as the Royal
Concertgebouw Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Symphony
Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra,
Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, I Solisti del Teatro alla Scala, the Moscow
Soloists and the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, and with conductors such as
Peter Maag, Justus Frantz, Saulius Sondeskis and Yuri Bashmet. His
2003 live recording of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the
Philharmonie der Nationen conducted by Justus Frantz, recorded at the
famous Hamburg MusikHalle resulted in a series of tours to Spain and
Germany and rave reviews.
Born in Cagliari, Maurizio Moretti studied under Ida Allegretto
at the Conservatory of Cagliari, and then for five years with Aldo
Ciccolini, who wrote about him: “an extraordinary rhythmical vitality, a
special inborn musical treatment of sound and a great technical
capacity which characterizes his pianism. He is surely one of the most
talented and original exponents of Italian pianism”. As a young pianist,
his excellent performances and outsanding musical interpretations have
garnered him many awards including the Mozart Fellowship from the
Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Sergey Rachmaninov International Piano
Competition, and the Sydney International Piano Competition of
Australia. He studied and toured for three years with conductor Peter
Maag, recognized worldwide as the best interpreter of Mozart’s music,
and together they played all the major Mozart’s piano concertos in
Europe’s major concert halls. Maurizio Moretti also performed with
maestro Maag in Madrid to an audience of 2,700 people in what was to be
the great conductor’s last public appearance.
Maurizio Moretti is currently Artistic Director of the
International Chamber Music Festival of the Roman Theatre of Nora,
Artistic Director of the Ente Musicale di Nuoro and Principal Guest
Soloist of the Orchestra Sinfonica de L´Aquila. He is also the Artistic
Director and Guest Soloist of the Europa Philharmonie Orchestra in
Magdeburg, one of the best young orchestras in Europe, and Music
Director and Guest Soloist of the renowned chamber orchestra I Solisti
di Perugia. A dedicated and outstanding teacher, Maurizio Moretti is
also currently the professor of pianoforte at the Conservatorio di
