For the occasion of the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, Italian Cultural Institute is presenting a concert with reading of the book Sono innamorata di Pippa Bacca, Chiedimi perché!” by the author Giulia Morello. The event will be in Italian and English with English and Chinese surtitles.

Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, known as Pippa Bacca, was tragically murdered in Turkey on March 31, 2008, during her artistic project Brides on Tour – Brides in Journey. This performance, in which she hitchhiked dressed as a bride from Milan to Jerusalem, was dedicated to promoting peace among peoples.

After her death, media coverage focused mainly on the crime, overlooking who Pippa was and the reasons behind her symbolic journey. Niece of avant-garde artist Piero Manzoni, Pippa grew up in a noble but unconventional family. She was passionate, independent, and devoted to art, funding her projects through part-time work and exhibiting in several shows. Her story is one of ideals, courage, and poetry — a narrative that remains deeply relevant today.

Performers
Narrator: Giulia Morello
Singer: Assia Fiorillo
Guitar: Matteo Panzironi
Bass: Pino Pecorelli

Italian artist Giulia Morello was the first to recover and tell Pippa’s story in the family-authorized book “I’m in Love with Pippa Bacca, Ask Me Why“, reissued in 2024 by Elledilibro with a foreword by Judge Paola Di Nicola Travaglini. Inspired by the book, the concert reading performed by Morello and Assia Fiorillo offers a powerful multi-voiced narrative celebrating Pippa’s life and vision.
