Italy participates with:
Reality
Director : Matteo Garrone
Winner of Grand Prix Award, 2012 Cannes Film Festival
Garrone’s follow-up movie to the 2008 Grand Prix winner movie Gomorrah
is a neo-realist, hilarious critique of the reality TV. Garrulous
fishmonger Luciano is an ordinary hawker occasionally running cheap
scams for extra money on the side, doing little entertainments to amuse
his family and neighbours. His life takes a turn and the ego harboured
beneath the skin is provoked when the former contestant on the Italian
reality TV Big Brother, Enzo’s show in the village wedding is more
popular than the drag queen he plays. Overwhelmed with enthusiasm and
determination about himself, Luciano goes to the Big Brother auditions
held in the local shopping mall and make it to Rome where he is casted
after harassing the jaded host Enzo. There begins not a road to fame but
a blue-collar misadventure ending in the man’s near-insanity as Luciano
becomes obsessed with television celebrity and eventually the program
invades into his life.
