This year, the EU-Asia Documentary Fest (EU-Asia Docs) has the pleasure to present a series of 15 documentary films from EU member states and Asian countries. The lineup explores a diverse array of themes, including environmental protection, human rights, LGBTIQ+ issues, elderly care, gender equality, and resilience in the face of conflict.
The Italian Cultural Institute Hong Kong is honored to present two Italian documentaries: Lisca Bianca by Giuseppe Galante and Giorgia Sciabbica, and Metamorfosi – Story of a Song of Wood by Giovanni Pellegrini. Both films share stories of drifting hearts that have found hope and renewal.
Lisca Bianca chronicles the life of a sailboat that has transformed lives over the past 40 years. Built in the 1970s by the Palermo couple Sergio and Licia Albeggiani, who realized their dream of sailing around the world, the boat’s legacy is now carried on by two new skippers. Today, Lisca Bianca serves as a beacon of redemption for young people involved in restorative justice, weaving a narrative that bridges past and present while inspiring dreams of freedom and change.
Screened alongside it is Metamorfosi – Story of a Song of Wood, which follows the journey of upcycling wood from boats abandoned by migrants into violins, meticulously crafted by inmates at Milan’s Opera prison.
Following the screening on July 23, there will be a Q&A session with director Giuseppe Galante and Elio Lo Cascio, the leader of the Lisca Bianca project.
