and in the acrobatic figuration patterns. One of the best exhibition performed by the group “RIONI DI CORI” Italian State Renaissance Flag Throwers is the Skirmish with flags, which embodies the eternal struggle between Heaven and Hell. The drums and trumpets accompany the Flag-Throwers and the movements of the flags.FLAG THROWERS “RIONI DI CORI”Cori
is a town located 50 km south of Rome, on the Lepine Mountains, and is
one of the oldest cities in Italy: according to the legend it was
founded 1000 years before Rome. The city of Cori is known
worldwide for ” L’Antica Arte del  maneggiar l’insegna”, that is the art
of using the flag in battle. The flag-waver preceded the troops in
battle and communicated with the soldiers through precise movements of
the flag, on which were drawn the heraldic symbols of municipalities,
duchies and principalities.During the Renaissance, the Masters
of Arms taught the rules for moving the Insegna, the flag,  how to bring
it, launch it and how to keep it while drawing the sword with the other
hand, but also how to offend with the flag since it was itself a
weapon. Three young skilled flag-wavers, carrying flags
decorated with the colourful blazons of the cities of Rome and Cori,
would be summoned by the local government to participate in the Ludi
(competition) in the Rione Testaccio (old quarter) of Rome. This custom
has been kept alive across the centuries, so the figure of flag-waver
changed his initial military connotation to become a skilled flag
thrower, performing for civic events, joyful and playful, like
historical processions and ancient chivalry. In 1966, Professor
Giovanni Pistilli founded the group of flag-waving Rioni di Cori, who
performed for the first time at the Historic Carousel of the town: the
group has perfected the art of the flag, combining the art of acrobatics
and flag with Renaissance music of drums and trumpets. Among tosses,
choreography and turning of flags, characteristic of the group is the
Skirmish Flags, la Schermaglia, which sees two competitors face each
other in difficult stunts that symbolize the eternal struggle between
Good and Evil.Among other achievements in the world, we should
remember their performance at the opening of the Olympic Games in Seoul
in 1988, the Worldfest at Epcot Center in Orlando in 1992, at the
Concert for Life and Peace in Jerusalem in 2003, at the Shanghai
International Folk Art Festival in October 2004, the great participation
in the Cathay Pacific Chinese New Year Parade in Hong Kong in 2006 and
in many other important international events.Further information on the“RIONI DI CORI” Flag Throwers  at:  http://www.sbandieratoridicori.it/
